Art in an Eclectic Deco Abode
Hosted by Charles Blake
Saturday, April 26th, 4 pm to 8 pm
The dreamy, vaguely nostalgic paintings of Charles Blake create a longing in the viewer for something inarticulate and magical. With muted colors and figures, his paintings evoke an old-fashioned sensibility. At times the subjects of his paintings portray a sense of dream like darkness as figures congregate in bizarre situations, peering out beyond the canvas into the eyes of the viewer. His textural paintings often depict scenes of family and friends, which are rendered in a full spectrum of deep, luscious hues and tones.
There is also another side to Charles' paintings, a lighter side with a sense of humor, where jovial characters dance and mingle or gaze longingly out into the distance. Charles often draws upon images, dreams and memories that he feels very spiritually connected to, without becoming pretentious or obvious. His self designed Art Deco South Beach style home with its eclectic furnishings, high ceilings and ample wall space makes for the perfect gallery setting to display his art .
